Here are our top tips on saving water

The average person in the UK uses 150 litres each day.

Even though water doesn't appear to be in short supply in the UK, using less water actually means you are:
  • Reducing energy usage
  • Saving hard earned money
  • But most importantly you are protecting the planet!

We’ve put together 5 of our favourite water saving tips, that are super easy to do, but equally provide a great impact with great results!

Tip #1

Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth –

Every minute the tap is running is the equivalent of 6 litres.

This is enough water to nourish a small back garden planter with veggies and fruits!

Tip #2

Opt for a shorter shower, not a bath.

Showers can use anything between 6 and 45 litres per minute. Consider playing your favourite song, to keep track of time, and make sure you’re as efficient as possible!

Tip #3 Always use full loads in your washing machine and dishwasher –

this reduces the smaller unnecessary washes in between, but using the same amount of water more efficiently. Additionally try a cold wash, it’s much better for your clothes and great and not melting so many micro plastics back into the ocean.

Tip #4 Fill a jug with tap water and place this in your fridge.

This avoids the tap running until you get the perfect cool temperature. Instead, it’s chilled and ready as a refreshing drink.

Tip #5 Water the garden with a watering can, not a hose pipe.

A hosepipe can use as much as 1,000 litres of water an hour. Mulching your plants and watering in the early morning and late afternoon will reduce evaporation and also save water.
